New 2017 Kia Soul at Monroeville Kia for Monroeville, PA

One could easily say that the Kia Soul is in a class of its own due to its distinct shape and smaller size. Although classified as a wagon, the Kia Soul realistically is more like a compact crossover SUV. This five-seat, front-wheel-drive hatchback is spacious inside and holds an impressive amount of cargo yet has a smaller footprint than other smaller crossover SUVs. It has outstanding crash test scores, making it an extremely safe vehicle. New for the 2017 Soul is a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, available in the highest trim. In addition, more features are available in the base trim, and the rear design has been improved with a row of LED lights.

Under the Soul's Hood

The 2017 Soul comes in three trims: Base, Plus (+) and Exclaim (!). The Base has the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 130 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque. This engine accompanies a six-speed manual transmission, but a six-speed automatic is optional. The Plus (+) trim has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 161 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired only with the automatic transmission. The Exclaim (!) trim is equipped with a new 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine produces 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. This turbo engine provides more than enough power to take the Soul's driver on a fun adventure. The Soul's suspension is well tuned, and with the turbocharged engine, the Soul still takes turns well. As mentioned earlier, the Soul has a generous amount of cargo space. It has 19 cubic feet of cargo behind the rear seats when cargo is stacked to the top. That capacity expands to 61 cubic feet when the seats are folded down.

Design of Kia Soul

The boxier design of the 2017 Soul is a benefit because it allows for taller doors and a higher ride height, which is great for taller occupants. This makes entering and exiting the vehicle very comfortable, and it also provides excellent visibility on the road. Standard features on the Base trim include: cloth covered seating, 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, a six-speaker audio system with USB input, and satellite radio. New for 2017 is more available features for the Base model, such as a 5" color touchscreen, a rearview camera, an active ECO system for better fuel economy, and keyless entry. Moving up to the Plus (+) trim adds heated mirrors, keyless entry, a rearview camera, 17-inch wheels, a 5" touchscreen, automatic headlights, foglights, selectable drive modes, cruise control, and automatic climate control. The highest trim, the Exclaim (!) adds more luxury with leather seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leatherette trim, Piano Black and chrome interior accents, 18-inch wheels, a 7" color touchscreen, an advanced meter cluster, touch-button ignition, and a vehicle immobilizer system. Both the Plus (+) and Exclaim (!) trims include the UVO infotainment system, which includes navigation, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The UVO system allows you to connect your smartphone to it which then accesses your contacts, messaging, and media on the touchscreen.
